Forest Glade Gardens, located on the southern slopes of Mount Macedon, is one of Australia's most renowned private gardens. Spanning approximately 14 acres (5.6 hectares), the garden showcases a blend of English, Italian, Asian, and woodland landscaping styles, offering visitors a diverse and picturesque experience.
Established in 1941 by the Newton family, the gardens were further developed by Cyril Stokes from 1971. Although devastated by the Ash Wednesday bushfires in 1983, Forest Glade was meticulously restored and, in 2011, was entrusted to The Stokes Collection Limited to ensure its preservation for future generations.
Visitors can explore distinct sections, including a large English garden with exotic trees, a Japanese garden complete with a bonsai house, serene woodland areas with shade-loving plants, and a cool fern gully. The gardens also feature topiary displays, pergolas, ponds, fountains, and sculptures, making it a haven for photographers and nature enthusiasts alike.
