Some detours are planned. Others emerge slowly through compromise, curiosity, and trust. From drifting through the canals of Yanagawa to wandering pottery kilns in Tōhō Village and racing against sunset in Itoshima, this was a day that revealed how travelling together is not about following the most efficient path, but about making space for what matters to one another.

After a day shaped by detours and changing plans, Takachiho offered something different: stillness. Between towering cliffs, flowing water, and mountain roads, the journey seemed to slow its pace, inviting us to notice not what we were rushing toward, but what had been quietly waiting all along.

The second day in Japan began with a simple detour and unfolded into something entirely different. A tea experience in Yame, a rushed visit to Beppu, quiet moments in Yufuin, and an unexpected lesson hidden inside a famous local dish revealed how travel often becomes richest when plans quietly fall apart.

A delayed flight, a frantic sprint through Hong Kong Airport, missing luggage, and the unfamiliar rhythm of travelling in a group of six — the first day of our two-week Japan journey unfolded far differently from what we had imagined. Yet somewhere between the chaos of transit corridors and the warm glow of Fukuoka’s yatai stalls, the journey slowly began to reveal what this trip through Kyushu would truly become: not just a movement between destinations, but a shared experience shaped by uncertainty, exhaustion, memory, and the quiet relief of finally arriving together.
